Mitra's artistic practice has been influenced by exploring a variety of styles and media, which include; writing, photography, installation, film, performance, sculpture, illustration and interactive technologies.
Her main artistic aim is to create inspirational dialogue and exchange through a variety of creative productions. She directs her creative practices towards connecting and collaborating with a wide range of creative individuals and organisations.
Having completed a PhD in fine art, her specialist subject is the construction and representation of identities. The relationship of the public with her work is central component of her practice in developing socially engaged projects, that seek to engage and inspire. In addition, Mitra is associate lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University and is on the board of directors for a-n The Artist Information Company and advisor to AIR (Artist Interaction and Representation).
Mitra is currently on artist in residence at The New Art Gallery in Walsall (18th Janl until 18th April 2010), where she has opened an Unwanted Gift Shop. The Public are asked to bring in their unwanted gifts, and she will turn them into artworks! Visit the website for more information.
